Here Are All the Virtual Gigs You Can Watch From Home in April

It’s time to dance like no one is watching.

The coronavirus pandemic has drastically changed life as we know it. We can no longer venture out to clubs on the weekend, hang out with a group of friends or book a table at our favourite restaurant.

But perhaps the saddest restriction of all: we cannot go and watch live music.

COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on musicians, with all non-essential gatherings across Australia being banned. Internationally, major music events including Coachella have been rescheduled, and the release dates for highly anticipated albums like Lady Gaga’s Chromatica are up in the air.

However, thanks to technology, artists around the world have the opportunity to keep spreading musical joy through online concerts. This way, we can still catch our favourite performers live and support a bunch of local artists as well.

Until life returns to normal, there’s a number of virtual gigs you can catch from the comfort and safety of your couch. (Although, we’d still recommend having a dance party with your mates over Skype.)

In fact, here are a couple you can watch right now.

Diplo

Coronavirus hasn’t stopped American DJ Diplo from hustling. He has been live streaming his sets every night from his living room for nearly a month now on YouTube. All you have to do is head to his channel on Wednesdays at 12pm AEST to listen.

Miley Cyrus

Okay, it’s not exactly a performance, but Miley has launched an Instagram talk show called "Bright Minded" to help calm our anxieties during these unprecedented times. Guests so far have included Demi Lovato, Amy Schumer, Hailey Bieber, Ellen DeGeneres, Emily Osment, Reese Witherspoon, Hilary Duff, Dua Lipa and more.

The Instagram lives start at 4.30am AEST, so you can always watch them back later.

Isol-Aid Festival

Since 21 March, we've been treated to the Instagram music festival Isol-Aid, which features a huge line-up of Aussie artists. Over the Easter long weekend, musicians such as Kota Banks and Tia Gostelow performed. Once the line-up is announced, you just have to head to the artist's Instagram account to watch them perform!

Now here are some upcoming virtual gigs to get excited about.

17 April: Kit

After performing at the debut Isol-Aid online festival, Katie Wighton from All Our Exes Live In Texas has been inspired to treat fans to a virtual single launch for her track "Good Guy". If you haven’t heard of Kit before, she’s been compared to Alex Lahey, Angel Olsen and Ruby Fields. The singer will be performing live from her living room at 7pm AEDT live on Instagram.

18 April: The Killers, BTS

Love The Killers' new single "Caution"? There’s a good chance the band will be performing it live on Instagram starting at 12pm PT. Like that’s not enough, they’ll also be conducting a Q&A to keep us all entertained. We’re still hoping they will be able to bring their tour to Australia in November.

After that, you’ll be able to hang out with BTS, who are kicking off a massive concert streaming marathon called "Bang Bang Con". Just head to BTS’s BANGBANTV YouTube channel to check it out.

19 April: One World: Together At Home

Gaga might have upset us by delaying her album release, but we’ll have to forgive her considering she’s organised a massive live show featuring artists like Taylor Swift, Awkwafina, Camila Cabello, Oprah, Jennifer Lopez, Alanis Morissette, Billie Eilish, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Elton John, FINNEAS, John Legend, Lizzo, Burna Boy and more. Hosted by Jimmy Fallon, the event will be broadcast down under by Network 10, MTV Australia and Foxtel on National Geographic and beIN SPORTS at 10am AEST.

25 April: Twitch’s Loop.tv Music Festival, Music From The Home Front

Watch Hanson, Nicole Bus, Milck, Another Day Dawns, Flora Cash and more perform at Twitch’s Loop.tv Music Festival. It’s aiming to raise money for organisations fighting the COVID-19 virus, with artists performing songs for fans stuck in self-isolation. You can find out more at Loop.tv.

On the same day, you'll also be able to catch Music From The Home Front, an ANZAC Day concert for those living in Australia and New Zealand. Artists including Birds of Tokyo, Ben Lee, G Flip, Jimmy Barnes, Kevin Parker, Vance Joy, Paul Kelly and Missy Higgins will be performing. 

Aussies will be able to watch it at 7.30pm local time on NINE and 9Now, and you can view it in New Zealand at 9.30pm NZST on THREE and ThreeNow. 

30 April: Gaudion

If you stan Matt Corby, Vance Joy or Dean Lewis, you won’t want to miss New South Wales singer Gaudion perform. Having recently released his new indie pop single "TV Shows", the unique artist will be doing a live stream show at 7.30pm AEST on YouTube and Instagram. You can watch it here.
