Hilary Duff Has Thrown Shade At Disney+ Over the "Lizzie McGuire" Reboot

Stans are not okay.

Last month, we received the dreaded news that the highly anticipated Lizzie McGuire reboot had officially been put on hold. The Disney+ series had stopped production after creator Terri Minksy stepped away from her role as showrunner after filming two episodes.

It was a sad, sad day.

Considering people were so excited for the revival, Minksy leaving the project raised one very important question: Why has production halted?

At the time, a Disney spokesperson told NBC, "After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show."

However, details surrounding the reboot have remained vague. As reported by Variety, many "industry insiders" have speculated that the revival will not move forward, crushing all of our hopes and dreams.

While Hilary Duff didn't comment on the show's progress at the time, the star finally broke her silence overnight by posting a rather cryptic Instagram story.

She uploaded a screenshot of a news headline about the planned Disney+ series Love, Simon, which is now called Love, Victor. The show was moved to Hulu after Disney+ decided it wasn't "family-friendly" enough for the streaming service, due to "alcohol use and themes of sexual exploration".

In the Instagram story, Duff wrote "sounds familiar" above the headline.

Given the star's not-so-subtle message, it's possible that the Lizzie McGuire revival could have been put on hold because it was too adult for Disney+.

In an interview with Variety, Minksy said "I am so proud of the two episodes we did."

"Hilary has a grasp of Lizzie McGuire at 30 that needs to be seen. It's a wonderful thing to watch. I would love the show to exist, but ideally I would love it if it could be given that treatment of going to Hulu and doing the show that we were doing. That's the part where I am completely in the dark."

"It's important to me that this show was important to people. I felt like I wanted to do a show that was worthy of that kind of devotion," she added.

Many stans were looking forward to seeing a more mature version of Lizzie.

At the moment, there's still been no word as to whether the show will move forward, or who would replace Minksy as showrunner.

This is probably the time to start blasting "What Dreams Are Made Of" on repeat.
