The “Lizzie McGuire” Reboot Has Been Put On Hold

This is not what dreams are made of.

When the Lizzie McGuire reboot was announced, it filled the gaping hole in our lives we never knew we had. We rejoiced in finding out that the entire family would be returning to our screens and screamed with excitement when Adam Lamberg announced he would reprise his role as Gordo.

Basically, it was the most highly anticipated television event of 2020.

However, that all changed late last week, when reports emerged that production of the Disney+ series has been put on hold.

On Friday, it was revealed that creator Terri Minksy has decided to step away from her role as showrunner after filming two episodes. At the moment, it’s not entirely clear why she made the choice to leave.

A Disney spokesperson told NBC, "Fans have a sentimental attachment to ‘Lizzie McGuire’ and high expectations for a new series."

"After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show."

The series was supposed to focus on Lizzie getting ready to celebrate her 30th birthday in New York.

At this stage, the future of the reboot remains unclear. They haven't officially scrapped it, but they’re not filming any new episodes. No new showrunner has been named yet, so we don’t know when we can expect production to resume.

Considering Terri Minsky created the original Lizzie McGuire series, fans are concerned that the future showrunner won’t be able to replicate what made the show so special.

Fortunately, Hilary Duff is currently on her honeymoon after getting married to Matthew Koma, so they have a bit of time to find their footing.

Who knows, maybe Paolo will make a comeback.
