Here's Why 2020 Isn’t the Worst

Things to look forward to despite all the bad.
So, right now it seems like history is repeating itself by making the ‘20s just as bad as they were last time around.
This year already, Australia has been ravaged by devastating bushfires, and then by flooding; we’ve witnessed rising tensions between the US and Iran; earthquakes in Turkey; more flooding in Indonesia; and, of course, the global pandemic that is the coronavirus (COVID-19).
It’s easy to feel a little let down with the beginning of the new decade, but instead of focusing on the negative, here are some things you can appreciate now or look forward to in 2020.
The rollout of 5G

This year we’ve witnessed the rollout of the new 5G (fifth generation) network in Australia, giving mobile data users downloads that take seconds, seamless streaming and real-time gaming.
So far, 5G has coverage in 32 capital cities and regional centers across Australia, if you haven’t already received coverage, you won’t be waiting too long.
So, if you’re stuck at home self-isolating at least you can be re-assured that you’ll have super-fast internet to stream all your favorite Netflix shows.
Childish Gambino’s new album 3.15.20

Just a week after he gave fans a sneak peak of his new music on DonaldGloverPresents.com, Childish Gambino has officially released his new album 3.15.20, so if you haven’t already had a listen, now is the perfect time!
The new album not only contains new music but features other talented artists like Ariana Grande, 21 Savage and Ludwig Göransson.
The new album can be found on all streaming services, so grab your device and turn up the volume.
Lady Gaga’s new album Chromatica

Another album to get excited about this year is Lady Gaga’s Chromatica.
We were lucky enough to be blessed with "Stupid Love" from the new album in February, just in time for Mardi Gras.
Chromatica is Gaga’s sixth studio album and is expected to be a dance record.
The album's planned release was April 10 but has been postponed for a later date this year.
So, when you’ve finished memorizing all the lyrics to Childish Gambino’s new music, you’ll have something new to get stuck in your head, when it is eventually released.
50th Anniversary of Earth Day

This 22 April 2020 will mark the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, commemorating the historic moment when millions took action to protect our planet.
On that date in 1970, 20 million Americans protested environmental ignorance, paving the way for the modern environmental movement.
Currently, climate change represents a huge challenge to future generations, but Earth Day 2020 will be a significant moment in history when citizens all over the world will call for a zero-carbon future.
If you’re stuck at home this Earth Day, consider joining a campaign, read about climate issues or try your best to minimize your environmental impact.
75th anniversary of the end of WWII
On 2 September 2020 the world will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II.
The Second World War lasted from 1939 to 1945 and included more than 30 countries and more than 100 million people.
This September will mark 75 years since the guns went silent, allowing us to remember the sacrifice of countless men and women.
The Australian Mint will commemorate the 75th anniversary by releasing a $2c mint mark colored coin, featuring the dove of peace and representing Australian forces.
The next Billie Eilish Vanity Fair interview
If you’re an avid YouTube viewer you’ve almost definitely seen Billie Eilish’s previous Vanity Fair interviews in in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
If you somehow missed it, each year Vanity Fair Interviews Billie, asking the same series of questions so that audiences can watch as she grows as a person and as an artist.
If you’re a Billie Eilish fan, you already know how exciting it is hearing her new responses and reacting to her previous interviews.
If they check in with her again, the next interview should be uploaded to YouTube in November this year, so for now we’ll have to be a little patient.
America’s Presidential election

One of the biggest events coming up in November this year must be the US presidential election.
This year will mark the 59th quadrennial presidential election and on 3 November, voters will select candidates to either elect a new president and vice president, or reelect President Donald Trump and Mike Pence.
Whether or not you’re interested in politics (or American politics for that matter) the election will bring loads of debates, news coverage and some potentially new faces in US government.
New Xbox series X and PlayStation 5 releases

Something to curb to your boredom at home (or distract you while you should be working) is the release of the new Xbox series X and PlayStation 5 consoles.
Microsoft has announced that the new Xbox is the company’s most powerful console ever.
The new design has been re-engineered to bring greater visual fidelity, improved loading speeds and more to give gamers of the new generation an immersive and superfast experience.
The new PlayStation 5 is said to feature an ultra-high-speed SSD, integrated custom I/O system as well as custom AMD GPU with ray tracing, and highly immersive 3D audio.
Both consoles are set to be released by the end of the year, with the Xbox being available in November and the PlayStation in December.
The Killers November tour

Despite every other event being cancelled because of the coronavirus, The Killers have come through and announced an Australian tour for 2020.
The tour will take place in November and feature their new album Imploding the Mirage, which is expected to be released in late May.
The band will kick things off at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on 11 November, before heading to Sydney to play at the Qudos Bank Arena on 14 November.
Next, they’ll perform at Perth’s RAC arena on 18 November and wrap things up at AAMI park in Melbourne on 21 November.
Ticket sales have been postponed for now but keep an eye out on Frontier’s website if you can’t miss it.
Harry Styles November/December tour

Harry Styles has also made our year by announcing his Australian Love On Tour for the end of the year.
The tour set for both November and December and will feature Style’s latest album Fine Line.
Styles will kick off with two Sydney shows at Qudos Bank Arena on 20 and 21 November, before performing another two shows at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on 25 and 26 November.
He’ll then head to Melbourne to perform two shows at the Rod Laver Arena on 28 and 29 November and finish off with a bang in Perth at RAC Arena on 2 December.
Tickets went on sale last week, but some shows still have spots available so snap them up while you can.
Total solar eclipse in December

This year we will also be lucky enough to witness another solar eclipse.
This event is special as it will be a total solar eclipse and the last eclipse of 2020.
Mostly visible from Chile and some parts of Argentina in the afternoon, if you miss out be sure to keep an eye on the news coverage.
The spectacular event should be visible on 14 December at 9:33pm WST and end on 15 December at 2:53am WST.
All the 'Gatsby' parties
Finally, while we can’t go to any parties right now, its nice to know that when we do come out of social isolation there should be a bunch of Great Gatsby-themed parties waiting for us.
So, dig out a suit or a flapper dress and put some swing music on, it is the ‘20s after all.
