Sony Has Finally Announced When PlayStation 5 Will Be Released

Here’s one for the 2020 Christmas list.

It is officially time to forget about what you want for Christmas this year, and swiftly turn your attention towards the 2020 holiday season. Why? Because Sony has confirmed that the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 will be released just in time to ensure it’s under your Xmas tree next year.

We’ve known a new generation console was coming since April, but PlayStation recently confirmed in a blog update that they’ll be launching it in time for "Holiday 2020". Sounds like those Chrissy bells are ringing.

Not only did Sony President and CEO, Jim Ryan, confirm when PS5 will be released, but he also teased a new and exciting controller.

"One of our goals with the next generation is to deepen the feeling of immersion when you play games, and we had the opportunity with our new controller to reimagine how the sense of touch can add to that immersion," he revealed in the blog.

The new controller will include reactive haptic feedback, rather than the classic 'rumble' effects.

"With haptics, you truly feel a broader range of feedback, so crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on a football field," Jim wrote.

Bring. It. On.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. They’ve also incorporated adaptive triggers into the L2/R2 trigger buttons, which means players will "feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow". Basically, the PS5 controller is going to make gaming feel way more realistic.

Wired were given an exclusive look at the PlayStation 5, and noted that the controller was "surprisingly immersive". Plus, it uses USB-C input for charging, as well as having a larger battery and improved speakers.

Back in April, Wired also revealed that you’ll be able to play your worn-out PS4 games on the next gen console.

Details such as the price of the console and the official release date haven’t been announced yet, but we’ll keep you updated.

Christmas 2020 couldn’t come any sooner.
