Still Looking For a PS5? You Can Grab a Custom Black Version This Saturday

Finding a PS5 is like finding hidden treasure at this point.

Since the PS5 was released in November last year, it has been damn near impossible to get your hands on one, no matter where you are in the world.

Every now and then we get a glimmer of hope when a retailer secretly reuploads the console listing to their website with no information on stock levels, shipping times or sale dates. But so far, many gamers have been out of luck.

Now in an unexpected turn, custom console creator SUP3R5 has announced that they're flogging custom black PS5 consoles and DualSense controllers as an homage to the PlayStation 2.

At this stage, it looks like this is one of the only places where you can find a PS5, even though it’s going to come all the way from the US.

The console and the matching controller will put an $830 dent in your wallet and that’s not including the shipping costs which SUP3R5 are telling customers to "expect to see increased shipping costs related to importing your product to the UK, or anywhere else outside of the United States."

The controller alone costs roughly $127.

You can find the custom PS5 here and the DualSense Controller here.

If you’re thinking this is your shot to finally get your hands on the console, you’re going to have to get in pretty quick. SUP3R5 only has 304 consoles available to sell and are limited to one console and two controllers per person.

The customisation of the DualSense Controller also requires a complete disassembly of the product which basically voids any warranty on the controller provided by Sony. So, you can forget about any safety net on the controller if it chooses to just stop working.

The limited-edition console (which looks pretty rad ngl) will go on sale at 7am AEST on Saturday 9 January, so set those alarms.

If you need a reminder you can sign up to get an email as soon as they drop and get all the other goss on their website. Although, I’d bet you’ll be refreshing that page from about 6am Saturday morning.

Of course, because the consoles are coming all the way from the US they will take a little while to get to Australia (or anywhere really). Plus, they won’t be due to ship until sometime between March and May this year.

It’s not yet clear if they'll be getting any extra consoles or if any more will be made after they sell out either.

So, it's a gamble. Will you be taking this chance and likely still be waiting until June-ish to get your hands on one? Or, are you going to put your faith in EB Games and JB Hi-Fi?

(Update 11/01/2021) SUP3R5 have cancelled all custom PS5 orders after receiving 'credible threats' to their safety. The Twitter account @SUP3R5OFFICIAL has now been deleted and some customers have begun receiving refunds via PayPal. You can find out more here.
