"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" Renewed for Season 8 Before Season 7 Even Airs

You’ve heard of "cool" news, but this news is officially "cool cool cool cool cool".

Though Season 7 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine doesn’t debut until February 2020, American broadcaster NBC has already ordered an eighth season of the show, expanding its afterlife even further.

According to Variety, NBC is extremely happy with how the audience for Brooklyn Nine-Nine grew over the course of its season.

Not only did that vindicate the network—which revived the show after it was cancelled by original broadcaster Fox—but it has encouraged them to just keep on making more eps.

Basically, this is NBC right now:

For those who are new to the long and painful (yet ultimately redemptive) B99 saga, here’s a rundown of the rollercoaster adventure thus far.

11 May 2018: Brooklyn Nine-Nine is cancelled by Fox.

12 May 2018: Brooklyn Nine-Nine is revived by NBC.

21 Aug 2018: The cast go back to work and are extremely happy about it.

28 September 2018: Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s fifth (and final on Fox) season debuts on SBS in Australia. (It’s now on Netflix.)

4 October 2018: Chelsea Peretti reveals she’s leaving the show. (And it wasn’t totally her choice.)

11 January 2019: Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s sixth (and first for NBC) season debuts on SBS in Australia. (In a frustrating twist, it’s still not available on Netflix, with no release date on the horizon.)

28 February 2019: The cast find out they’ve been renewed for Season 7.

12 July 2019: Cheddar dies!

Today: Brooklyn Nine-Nine is renewed for Season 8.

7 February 2020: Yes, this is the future. It’s when Season 7 debuts on SBS in Australia (but not Netflix).

So, to clarify, if you're completely up to date with Brooklyn Nine-Nine because you watched episodes as they debuted on SBS, you have seen up to the end of Season 6. There are at least two more seasons coming for you, beginning in February of next year.

However, if you only watch B99 on Australian Netflix, you've only seen to the end of Season 5 (when Jake and Amy got married), so you've got plenty more of Jake and company in your future. Get ready for some binge-watching, beginning with the Season 6 premiere where Amy dresses up like Holly from Die Hard and Holt wears a shirt that says "slut".

FYI, Brooklyn Nine-Nine's sixth season lands on Netflix in Australia on 11 January 2020.
