Toilet Emoji: Chelsea Peretti Admitted It Wasn't Totally Her Choice to Leave "Brooklyn Nine-Nine"

She explained Gina Linetti's exit "wasn't fully just [her] decision."

While we were lucky enough to suffer minimal damage in the Great Cancellation and Swift Renewal of Brooklyn Nine-Nine in 2018, we couldn't avoid a casualty of war: Gina Linetti, played by Chelsea Peretti.

In-between all the cheers and fist-pumping for Brooklyn Nine-Nine's renewal came the news that the show's best dancer would be taking a permanent vacay.

Spoilers ahoy if you aren't up-to-date with Season 6 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

And in Season 6's fourth episode, that time came. Gina Linetti has left the building.

But despite her absence through much of Season 4 and some of 5, Chelsea Peretti told TV Line that Gina leaving "wasn't fully just [her] decision."

"It's hard to get into the weeds of what exactly transpired and how it all shook out, but it kind of came together to be this timing that presented itself," Peretti explained.

"So I kind of knew that it was going to be happening for a while... [and was] holding on to this feeling of, like, 'I'm going away from this family' in my head."

Thankfully for us, it's not a total departure. She's already back on set filming new episodes, it just means we won't be seeing Gina on the reg.

"If you talk to anyone in acting—we didn't even know if the show was going to be renewed or not—you're always thinking [about] what's going to happen in your life," she said.

"It's the endless twists and turns of show business, and this is kind of how it wound up evolving but I'm going to do another episode, and there's nothing but family feel, so..."

You can catch Season 6 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine on SBS Viceland, SBS on Demand or iTunes.
