So, Turns Out Tesla's New In-Car Gaming System Is PS5 Level

$150,000 to game on the go.

Another week, another outrageous Elon Musk claim, am I right?

This time, it’s about in-car gaming, with the Tesla CEO confirming their new range of cars will have PS5 levels of computing power.

Okay, we know that what you just read sounds ridiculous, so feel free to take a moment. Basically, what the team at Tesla have done is shove a PS5 into their new Model S and X cars.

The eccentric tech billionaire teased fans with in-car gaming over a year ago, asking people if they wanted to play The Witcher in their Tesla.

Ngl, I brushed this off as another one of Musk’s absurd tweets but strike me dead, he’s gone and bloody done it 18-months later.

Computing company AMD confirmed at Computex 2021 yesterday that they would be powering Tesla’s in-car infotainment system.

“We actually have an AMD Ryzen APU powering the the infotainment system in both cars as well as a discrete RDNA2-based GPU that kicks in when running AAA games,” CEO of AMD Lisa Su said in the presentation.

“Providing up to 10 teraflops of compute power… We look forward to giving gamers a great platform for AAA gaming”.

Yep, there’s a lot of nerd words there so imma break it down for ya.

The Ryzen APU and RDNA2 are just product names for “this computer is freakin’ powerful, and we can’t believe we got it into a car."

A teraflop is the word now used by computer companies to flex how fast their gear is. The PS5 offers 10.28 teraflops, so basically the Tesla’s gaming system is just like a PS5—just a lot more expensive.

As for AAA games, well that’s any game published by big developers. Think The Witcher, Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty and so on.

True to form, Musk tweeted about the power of the new car's in-game system, and really, we can’t blame the guy. That is some crazy power.

Now, if you’re wondering how this can possibly be legal (wouldn't it be a massive distraction while driving?), Tesla have actually been offering gaming, Netflix and YouTube in their cars for a while now.

However, the car must be parked before you can use any of them for safety reasons.

So, if you have to wait 30 minutes for your car to charge, why not merk some people on Fortnite?
