A Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy Is Rumoured to Be Dropping This Year

GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas in the one game.

Rumours about the Grand Theft Auto series getting the remastered treatment have intensified today with Kotaku claiming a remastered trilogy is defs happening and will drop later this year.

The trilogy will include Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City and San Andreas, and according to one of Kotaku’s sources the game will be a mixture of “old and new graphics.” We’ve no idea what that means but hey, if we can't have GTA 6 then this is the next best thing.

The source—who was lucky enough to see some footage of the game in action—said that the graphics looked like a “heavily-modded” version of the classic video games, complete with an updated UI that kept the style of the original games.

Unfortunately, the source remained tight-lipped on gameplay, but did admit that developer Rockstar Games are doing what they can to stay true to the feel of the PS2 versions of the games.

In terms of release date, the initial plan was for Rockstar to reward people who bought the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X version of GTA V with the remastered trilogy as a ‘thank you’ gift but the developer has now changed tact.

Instead, Rockstar are going to release the remastered trilogy as a stand-alone game as early as October so slap that in your calendar.

As for which consoles the game will be released on, aside from the standard PlayStation, Xbox and PC, for the first time ever GTA will be also available on the Nintendo Switch.

The rumours don’t stop there though ‘cos Rockstar are gonna continue to pump out the nostalgic content with a remastered version of Red Dead Redemption, so get ready to giddy up again with John Marsden.

The one catch is that Rockstar will only do this if sales for the remastered GTA trilogy go well, but that’s almost a foregone conclusion at this stage since fans have been begging for something new in the GTA universe for years now.

As for GTA 6, keep dreaming 'cos that shiz ain't coming out for a long time.

GTA Remastered Trilogy is rumoured to be released in October for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Nintendo Switch and Stadia.
