The New PS5 Model Has Been Spotted in Aussie Stores

Cue Kanye West’s “Stronger”.
Okay, so maybe the updated version of the PS5 isn’t going to be harder, better, faster or stronger (sorry Kanye) but it is going to be lighter and reportedly available in Australia.
Rumours about the console getting a weight reduction have been circulating for a few months, and now Press Start in Australia have confirmed that the latest batch of PS5s to land down under have included the new upgrade.
To set the record straight, the new console isn’t changing its style or size—which we can all agree is absurd—but is dropping 300g and having a different screw for the base stand that doesn’t need a screwdriver to adjust anymore.

Unfortunately, 300g won’t make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things with the new model weighing 3.6kg.
Theses new updates were only scheduled to be made for the digital edition of the console, but Press Start have confirmed that the disc edition has also been given the weight loss treatment which is a nice surprise from Sony.
Australia looks to be the first country to get stock of the lighter PS5 with the new stand screw.

This had only previously been confirmed for the Digital Edition but we can now confirm it's also on the regular edition PS5 too! https://t.co/P63AAKu7zb
What about a PS5 slim edition?
Sadly, there is no news on a slim edition of the PS5 yet, even though the console desperately needs it.
For a lot of gamers, the size really is a big factor for them not buying one (including me) as the gigantic console takes up a lot of precious real estate on the old TV cabinet.
Of course, Sony will eventually release a slim version, but don’t expect it to be any time soon. The company waited almost three years after the launch of the PS4 before dropping the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in 2016.
By that timeline, we’re looking at a release date of late 2023.
RIP.
Sorry gamers, looks like your just gonna have to put up with the chonky boy a little longer.
