Leak Reveals “Call of Duty” May Return to WW2

The new game is rumoured to be called Call of Duty: WW2 Vanguard.

It's time for all you first-person shooter game fans to celebrate because the Call of Duty franchise is rumoured to be returning to history's biggest war with Call of Duty: WW2 Vanguard in development by Sledgehammer Games.

Before we jump in, we probably need to flag some ground rules regarding the leak. As per all leaks, they’re exciting, but always take them with a grain of salt.

All right, back to it.

The latest leak is reporting the working title for the new game will be WW2 Vanguard, suggesting that previous leaks about a return to World War 2 are true.

Yep, it's a pretty random name that doesn’t give much away, but it’s good to keep in mind working titles are usually tentative at best and will almost certainly be changed in the future.

With that out of the way, another credible Call of Duty insider on Twitter, VictorZ, supports the leak's return to World War 2 with his latest post showing a pic from the 2017 Call of Duty: WW2 game with the sledgehammer emoji.

What makes the latest leak so interesting is that another credible source of Call of Duty news, ModernWarzone, had reported that the newest game would be set in the '50s.

With World War 2 ending in 1945, this makes the '50s setting unusual but not out of the realms of possibility, with fans speculating that the latest game could be set during the Korean War which began in 1950.

Whatever turns out to be true, it’s exciting to see they’re taking the franchise back in time. Previous games to feature World War 2 were Call of Duty 1, 2 & 3, Finest Hour, World at War and WWII.

Having played my fair share of Call of Duty in my time, I believe the franchise is at its strongest when developing games around an era in history.

We’ll keep you updated on any more news that breaks about the World War 2 rumours. Until then, why not sharpen your first-person shooter skills with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War?

Go on, treat yourself. You've earned it.
