"Call of Duty: Warzone" Launches New Verdansk 1984 Map Complete With Cable Car

Welcome to the ‘80s.

In the year since Call of Duty: Warzone launched, the popular free-to-play battle royale shooter played by 100 million people worldwide finally added a new map.

Say goodbye to Verdansk and say hello to…Verdansk 1984.

Original we know but hear them out.

Last week, Warzone’s season finale event included the destruction of the Verdansk map by a nuclear missile. It was pretty sick tbh.

What started out as a normal game lead to players being turned into a zombie when they died. Once the map was completely overrun by the infected, your radio warns of an incoming nuclear missile.

Moments later the nuke hits Verdansk and destroys the entire map.

As it turns out this is Warzone’s creative way of writing off one map and replacing it with another, like what Fortnite did in 2019.

The new map is Verdansk 1984 and though the shape and layout remain the same, there are changes to most locations with a 1980s spin to them.

Amos Hodge, creative director at developer’s Raven Software, said the new map should be a crowd-pleaser.

“I think players will like the new map,” said Hodge.

“I think through the positive lens of the evolution and quality of life improvements on top of new gameplay. And we fix some stuff.”

Some of the changes include the airplane boneyard from the map being transformed into a vibrant airplane factory, more open spaces inside the superstore to prevent people from camping, and the stadium now being shown as under construction.

In place of the dam are a bunch of buildings and more importantly, a freaking cable car that goes to the top of the hill!

All in all, there are seven new major locations in the Verdansk ’84 map and five areas that have been revamped.

Oh, and for those of you who frequent the Gulag, Raven have added a maze element to it.

The new Call of Duty: Warzone update is around 25GB so free up some space if you haven’t already.
