How to Download "Call of Duty: Warzone" (Because You'll Need Something to Pass the Time)

Apparently, people aren’t sure how to do it. This’ll help!

Given that we’ve suddenly found ourselves, ahem, with a lot of free time at home on our hands, many of us have been devoting ourselves to honing our talents in the unbridled, anything-goes battle royale thunderdome of Call of Duty: Warzone, as opposed to the anything-goes battle royale thunderdome of the local supermarkets.

As we often do at Student Edge, we’ve decided to pass along our knowledge and guidance, especially during this time of self-isolation and social distancing. (Never before has an online multiplayer game in which you spend your time trying to kill everyone else been such a warm and welcoming salve for the lonely.)

In the past, we’ve helped gamers learn how to dunk in NBA 2K, find hidden surprises in Wolfenstein: Youngblood, and unlock all 13 endings in Catherine: Full Body. We’ve also already explained how to restore your health in Warzone. Nonetheless, we went to Google to see what most people were asking about this latest CoD add-on. And it was this: "How do I download Call of Duty: Warzone?"

Sure, more than 30 million players have already figured it out, but apparently some are unsure how to find this damn thing. Look, you’ll get no judgement from us here. We simply want to help. So, if that’s what you want to know, we’ve got your back.

How to download and play Call of Duty: Warzone

First, you’ll need either a PS4, Xbox or PC. You’ll also need them to be connected to the internet (which I sure hope your PC is!) so you can download it from those hyperlinked locations, as you can’t buy it in physical stores.

You can also go direct to PlayStation and Xbox's online shops and search for Call of Duty: Warzone, and follow the instructions to download there.

If you already shelled out for Call of Duty’s 2019 game Modern Warfare, you’ll only need to download the latest update to get Warzone, which’ll take about 20GB of data (provided you’ve been keeping up with all the patches since Warfare’s release last year; otherwise, make it 80GB). Your console should do this automatically. Then, when you go to open Modern Warfare, it’ll present you with Warzone mode on the homepage.

If you haven’t got Modern Warfare, don’t sweat it. You can still download Warzone for free, but it’ll cost you up to 101GB in space on your console or device. Once again, you can either download it here or via Blizzard’s Battle.net launcher.

How much does Warzone cost?

As of this writing, it’s free to download and play on PC. You won’t need a paid subscription to play.

As of this writing, it’s also free to download and play on PS4. You won’t need a PlayStation Plus subscription either.

As of this writing, it’s even free to download on Xbox One. But it’s not free to play! You need a paid Xbox Live Gold subscription for that. Two out of three ain't bad.

Otherwise, if you’re deadset on giving the game your money, you can buy a Battle Pass for additional CP, blueprints, skins and so on. But as with any "freemium" games, be careful with how much you pour into it, as sometimes players can find themselves surprised by how much they spent on a so-called freebie.

There you go. So long as you have more than 100GB available on your console, and a willingness to hunt the most dangerous game of all (man), you can now enjoy Call of Duty: Warzone. See you out there, soldier.
