We Regret to Inform You Henry Cavill’s "Witcher" Wig Was Not a Drill

Why, Geralt, why?

Late last year, the internet took great pleasure in dunking on Netflix’s newly-announced adaptation of The Witcher book and game series, largely due to early footage of star Henry Cavill in a white wig.

He was apparently meant to resemble main character Geralt, but as we documented in great detail, he looked more like Raiden, Legolas, Viserys Targaryen, Lucius Malfoy, Julian Assange and/or a member of the Volturi. Basically, any long-haired film or TV character that wasn’t actually Geralt.

But hey, production had just begun! There was plenty of time to turn the ship around.

Unfortunately, ahead of the first bit of footage (expected to debut at Comic Con), Netflix premiered "first-look" (though technically "second-look") photos of Cavill in costume. And the wig is still bad.

It’s gonna be pretty hard to look past Cavill’s platinum-bleached locks going forward, but the authenticity of his co-stars Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan as Yennefer and Ciri should help.

That said, Witcher devotees have done a 180 on Cavill’s casting, and are giving the wig a thumbs up.

But some people with taste knew the real truth:

The Witcher is set to debut later this year on Netflix.
