Welp: “The Witcher” S2 Halts Production Again After Positive COVID-19 Tests

We've had enough of 2020.

If continuously re-watching Netflix's The Witcher has got you through the chaotic events of this year, you're definitely not the only one. In fact, back in January the streaming service revealed that the show had been watched by 76 million households.

With that in mind, it's only natural that fans have been patiently impatiently waiting for Season 2 to land on Netflix.

Well, we're sorry to bring you this very sad news, but production on The Witcher S2 has been shut down (again) thanks to coronavirus.

As reported by Deadline, four positive COVID-19 cases were confirmed and Netflix is carrying out an isolated round of testing of everyone involved in the show.

Apparently no lead cast members have been impacted (you can breathe a sigh of relief Henry Cavill stans).

This isn't the first time production on the second season has been halted. In March, actor Kristofer Hivju—who starred as Tormund in Game of Thrones—tested positive for coronavirus, which caused filming to pause.

From there, production was shut down from March until August as the United Kingdom went into lockdown. The series is filmed at Arborfield Studios, which is around 65 kilometres from London.

This time around, Netflix has made the decision to pause production for two weeks. It's due to resume when the streamer is completely confident that it is safe for everyone to return to set.

If you've somehow managed to not watch the show, The Witcher follows Geralt of Rivia (Cavill), a solitary monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.

At this stage, no release date for Season 2 has been confirmed. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich confirmed in a Reddit AMA that the show was hoping for a 2021 release. However, there's a good chance it could be pushed back considering the production shutdowns.

Looks like we're in for a long wait.
