All Your Disney, Marvel & Star Wars Faves Are Coming to Stan (After Bolting Netflix)

Twist!

Disney shows and movies will be available to stream on Stan as of this Friday 14 December, following their extremely recent exit from Netflix.

In a press release and trailer, Stan revealed they had snagged the rights to (*deep, very expensive breath*) animated flicks Frozen, The Lion King and The Little Mermaid; Pixar movies Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Toy Story 3, WALL-E, Up, Finding Nemo and Coco; live-action hits Cinderella and A Wrinkle in Time; Star Wars entries The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story; oh, and those Marvel movies Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Thor: Ragnarok; plus a whole heap more.

Those will go live alongside shows from the Disney Channel and Disney Junior, including Star Wars Rebels, DuckTales and Andi Mack.

So, yes, this is a huge, entertaining and just a little bit petty new tangle in Australia's increasingly complicated streaming story.

Over the last few months, we've seen Disney slowly pull their content (like the aforementioned Pixar and Marvel movies) from Netflix, in the lead-up to the launch of their very own streaming service in 2019: Disney+.

In retaliation, Netflix began cancelling their original Marvel shows Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Daredevil, drawing out the process for maximum pain.

Still, seeing Disney content suddenly re-appear on Stan (which belongs to Nine Entertainment Corp) is definitely a surprise, and raises some interesting question.

For instance, is this just a placeholder arrangement until Disney+ launches properly in late 2019? (We've reached out to Stan for comment.)

Or, does this mean Disney+ won't get the global rollout we had all assumed, and Aussie consumers will have to wait a little bit longer for it? The latter doesn't seem as likely, especially considering how much money Disney is pouring into original content for their streaming service, including a new High School Musical series, an updated Lady and the Tramp and a bunch of Marvel and Star Wars spin-off shows.

Welp, until Disney+ arrives, get your Disney fix at Stan.

Your move, Netflix.
