The "High School Musical" Show Will Focus on High School Students Performing "High School Musical"

The High School Musical franchise has gotten a whole lot more meta.

2006 was a transformative year for many pre-teens and regular teens around the world. It's the year the life-changing (okay, maybe just for me?) movie High School Musical was released and scores of high school-aged teens learned the words of classics "Breakin' Free" and "Start of Something New".

Fast-forward to 2018 and the franchise still has enough steam for Disney to commission a new TV series, ready to be unleashed upon a new generation of unsuspecting teens.

Coming to Disney's upcoming streaming service in the next few years, the High School Musical TV series (aptly called High School Musical: The Musical) will focus on some high school students at East High who perform the musical, High School Musical.

Yep, it's pretty meta.

The main characters, Ricky, Nini and E.J., are apparently in a bit of a love triangle, so you can already see all the real-life (AKA TV) drama behind the scenes of their musical production that's about to unfold.

Given that Disney's streaming service probably isn't being released this year, you might have to wait a while before you get to experience any dramatic performances.

When it is finally released, all we actually care about is that the show features a whole lot of these moves.
