Disney's New Streaming Service Will Churn Out Five TV Shows a Year Including "Star Wars"

Clear your schedule because 2019 will be an intense year for Disney television and movies.

Further details have emerged regarding the upcoming (and slightly mysterious) Disney streaming service that's set for a 2019 release.

Deadline is reporting that meetings between Disney executives reveal that the site will host no R-rated movies (le shock!); R-rated content will remain on Hulu, and Marvel-Netflix series will remain on Netflix for now. They also intend to release four to five original movies and five new television series a year.

We've heard that one of those series will be a Star Wars-based saga but adding to that is the potential for seasons based on High School Musical, Monsters Inc. as well as another Marvel character.

In the realm of movies, there's talk of remakes for Sword and the Stone and 3 Men and a Baby as well as turning the kid detective book series, Timmy Failure, into a feature.

There's still no word, however, whether the service will also feature titles like The Simpsons and Avatar from 20th Century Fox, which Disney recently bought over.

While a little reluctant at signing up to another streaming service, Disney loyalists are already committing themselves to the task.

But, you're going to have to wait at least another year before it's released and even then, there's no mention of when it will hit Australia's shores.
