Disney Finally Snapped Their Fingers and Pulled Their Movies from Stan

Disney Finally Snapped Their Fingers and Pulled Their Movies from Stan

Mr. Stark, I don't feel so good.

Last December, we gasped at the latest twist in the local streaming wars, when Disney yanked all its content from Netflix a full year before the launch of their own competing service, Disney+.

It was at that point Stan, an Australian-based streamer, jumped in and temporarily snapped up the rights to Disney’s animated and live action movies and TV shows, including the works of Pixar, Lucasfilm and Marvel.

However, we long suspected that Stan would lose all those tantalising titles when Disney+ premiered.

And, guess what? It appears to have finally happened.

Yesterday, one day before the arrival of Disney+ on Australian shores, Stan removed the 'Disney' tile from their homepage. Scroll through their catalogue now, and you won’t find the likes of The Lion King or Black Panther or even Andi Mack.

And here’s what you get when you search for Star Wars.

(For what it's worth, we still stan RuPaul.)

Thankfully, you can, ahem, still find one Marvel movie on Stan these days...

It may be hard to take, but news did leak earlier in the year that the Stan-Disney contract was ending in October, so you perhaps should have spent more time emotionally steeling yourself and less time binge-watching DuckTales. (Actually, we take that back. Zero regrets!) Besides, you’ll still have access to those titles when you sign-up to Disney+.

But now you’ll just have to start thinking seriously about where your streaming money goes. Can you really spread yourself across Netflix, Stan, Foxtel, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Apple TV+?

Maybe only if you meet a genie.
