OMG: The Long-Awaited “Friends” Reunion Is Finally Happening and They’ve Released a Teaser

Plus, there’s a sneaky twist!

Overnight, HBO Max shook the earth by releasing the official Friends: The Reunion teaser trailer and my lord has the internet lost its mind over this news.

After more than a year of waiting and questions about if it was actually going to go ahead or not, we finally have the relieving news that Courtney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt Le Blanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer will be returning for the long-awaited unscripted reunion.

The "unscripted special" will essentially be the cast members sitting around and discussing the show, rather than creating an entirely new episode. HBO Max confirmed that they'll be returning to the iconic comedy's original sound stage—Stage 24—on the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank to film the special.

In the teaser, we watch the original six friends strutting, hand-in-hand, through a lane of studios while the iconic theme song “I’ll Be There For You” by the Rembrandts plays overtop.

The HBO gods also blessed us with the finer details of the special ep, including its official title: The One Where They Got Back Together, and its release date. Airing on HBO Max, the exclusive new episode will land on screens on 27 May.

On top of all that, we’re also getting a special twist that’ll probs blow your socks off.

For the special ep, the producers of Friends have invited a massive list of famous guests to appear. Some are just rando celebrities and others are previous cameos on the show. Either way it’s super exciting.

Included on that list are: Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden, David Beckham, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Larry Hankin (Mr Heckles), Christina Pickles (Ross and Monica’s mum), Lady Gaga, Elliott Gould (Ross and Monica’s dad), Kit Harington, Tom Selleck (Richard), James Michael Tyler (Gunther), Mindy Kaling, Thomas Lennon (Joey’s hand twin), Maggie Wheeler (Janice), Reese Witherspoon (Rachel’s sister Jill) and Malala Yousafzai.

Wooow, what a line-up.

British producer and director Ben Winston (Carpool Karaoke: The Series) is tipped to direct and executive produce the reunion special alongside Kevin Bright, and series creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane.

News of the reunion finally happening is massive considering Aniston teased the project all the way back in October 2019.

There’s no telling where the new episode will land ‘cos it’s being hosted by HBO Max, but we can imagine one Aussie steaming service will snap it up soon. We’ll keep you updated on that one.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last 27 years and haven’t heard of Friends, it’s one of the most popular sitcoms in history, and it’s still being binged to death in 2021.
