“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” Has Scrapped Four New Episodes Amid Black Lives Matter Protests

Terry Crews says they’re starting over.

With Black Lives Matter protests taking place across the globe over the past month, films and television shows involving cops are being scrutinised now more than ever.

Cops has been cancelled for celebrating bad policing, while Law & Order: SVU has also been criticised for its portrayal of police.

Now, Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor Terry Crews has announced that showrunner Dan Goor has scrapped four new episodes of the upcoming Season 8.

"We've had a lot of somber talks about it and deep conversations and we hope through this we're going to make something that will be truly groundbreaking this year. We have an opportunity and we plan to use it in the best way possible," Terry told Access Hollywood.

"Our showrunner Dan Goor, they had four episodes all ready to go and they just threw them in the trash. We have to start over. Right now we don't know which direction it's going to go in."

Terry also shared his personal experiences with racial injustice.

"You've seen me, in movies or whatever but before all this, I was always a threat. I would be going to the mall or going different places. I've had guns pointed at me by police offers in L.A. This was before I was famous. The thing is, they had the wrong guy," Terry explained.

"It's something that every black man has been through and it's hard to really try to get other people to understand. I have to say, right here, what is going on right now is Black America's Me Too movement. We always knew this was happening, but now white people are understanding."

Earlier this month, the actor tweeted various messages in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Additionally, the Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast and showrunner donated $US100,000 to the National Bail Fund Network.

The series wrapped its seventh season in April, although we're still not entirely sure when it will land on Aussie Netflix.
