If you’re still wearing that Harley Quinn Halloween costume from two years ago, it’s officially time for a refresh.

It’s always fun to play dress up and Halloween is a great excuse to get creative. But if your creative juices aren’t flowing this scary szn, we’ve got your back.

Here’s how to avoid looking like a millennial with these Halloween costume ideas for 2023.

Barbie.

How could we not put Barbie on this list? It’s only the highest grossing movie of the year so far, but there are soo many costume ideas from this one movie. You could be Dr. Barbie, Lawyer Barbie, Physicist Barbie, President Barbie, Weird Barbie or just Margot Robbie’s Stereotypical Barbie for 'Barbieween' this year.

Met Gala cockroach.

It’s the cockroach who arguably stole the show at this year’s annual Met Gala event. According to TIME, the Met Gala cockroach kept the crowd entertained while they were waiting for Rihanna to arrive. And while it (sadly) did not make it out of the night alive, dressing up as the Met Gala cockroach could be the perfect way to pay homage to this fallen, fashion icon.

The Little Mermaid.

Halle Bailey absolutely KILLED this role so it should be no surprise this made it on our list. It’s also an easy costume to recreate from what’s in your wardrobe. You could opt to go as Ariel on land and wear a black top and a light blue skirt, or Ariel the mermaid with a sequin tail and all!

Duo costumes: Posh Spice and David Beckham.

Netflix is currently making us all swoon with their new docuseries Beckham. And while the series is primarily about soccer-hottie David Beckham, viewers can’t seem to love the dynamic between him and his wife, Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer Victoria Beckham. The couple have also had some iconic (and slightly questionable) looks in their past so there’s plenty of inspiration for a Halloween costume.

Duo costumes: Barbenheimer.

Move over Ken and Barbie, there’s a new duo in town. While movie critics predicted the two films would compete with one another, they did the opposite. And it became a trend for moviegoers to watch the two films consecutively. A hot, new take on an OG costume, nothing screams 2023 more than a Barbenheimer couple’s costume.

Duo: Joel and Ellie from The Last of Us.

The highly-anticipated video game TV show adaptation had us on the edge of our seats and for good reason – it was a massive hit! As a Halloween costume idea, it’s an easy way to dress up without having to spend much money. For Pedro Pascal’s character Joel, all you’d need are some black pants, rugged shoes, a denim shirt and a canvas jacket. As for Bella Ramsey’s character Ellie, you could get away with a baseball t-shirt, jacket, jeans and sneakers.

Group costume: The Matildas.

The Matildas had everyone on the edge of their seats in July when they made it all the way to the semi-finals in the Women’s World Cup and finished fourth, Australia’s best-ever finish in a World Cup. And while they didn’t win, they ignited a love of soccer in young people everywhere.

If you want to show some love to the ‘Tillies, you could easily grab some of your mates and some Matildas jerseys from Rebel Sport for a massive group costume!
