Hype For The Women's FIFA World Cup Is So Huge, They Upgraded The Venue

More fans now have the chance to attend.

FIFA has recently announced that Australia’s first match in the FIFA Women's World Cup will be moved to play in Accor Stadium due to a high demand for tickets.

The first match is the highly anticipated game between Australia and the Republic of Ireland, was originally set to take place in Sydney Football Stadium.

The move to Accor Stadium is huge because its capacity is almost twice that of original venue, seating up to 83,500 people.

The FIFA website states that Accor Stadium ‘was due to host knockout matches only, but given the significant interest in tickets, [they have] taken the decision to move Australia’s first match to Sydney’s largest stadium’.

FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura said, ‘”FIFA’s mission is to organize the biggest and best Women’s World Cup in history this year… With this in mind, we have taken a decision that will enable over 100,000 fans to attend the opening matchday, providing more opportunities for supporters to engage with the FIFA Women’s World Cup as a month of football we will never forget gets underway.”’

If you’re eager to get tickets, FIFA will be releasing additional tickets for the Australia v Republic of Island match on Friday, 24 February at midday AEDT.

Fans who have already purchased tickets for this match will be notified by email, and their ticket purchase will remain valid for the new venue.

The Australia v Republic of Ireland match will kick-off Thursday, 20 July at 8pm AEST.
