Grammy Nominations Are Out and These Celebs Aren’t Happy

Anyone smell some beef?

Nominations for the 64th annual Grammy Awards in 2022 have just been announced, and some musicians are miffed.

In recent years, the award show has been notorious for snubbing artists who have otherwise performed well in the charts. Here’s some quick background on that.

Snubs, bribes, and secret dealings.

Whether it’s lack of representation or money-making schemes, the Grammy’s have been called out ruthlessly—many, many times.

In 2011, Nicki Minaj called out her Best New Artist loss after being nominated ten times in her career with zero wins.

Teyana Taylor pointed out the lack of female representation in the Best R&B Album category, and Halsey responded to her own historical snubs by explaining the Academy's behind-the-scenes business dealings.

In an Instagram story, Halsey explained that the process of determining nominations and wins is often about “private performances, knowing the right people, campaigning through the grapevine, with just the right handshakes…making sure you help the Academy make their millions in advertising on the night of the show.”

Zayn Malik also tweeted about his frustration with the process.

Miley Cyrus’s cheeky remark.

The “Plastic Hearts” singer seems to be unhappy with the 2022 Nominations but isn’t getting too serious about it.

How’s this for a bitter tweet?

The list includes legends like Abba, Sia, Queen, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, and Tupac Shakur.

With her seventh studio album Plastic Hearts being released late last year and having received only one Grammy nomination so far in her career, this definitely smells of a snub.

 Machine Gun Kelly’s direct attack.

He topped the Billboard 200 with his 2020 release Tickets to my Downfall and has had astronomically successful singles like “my ex’s best friend”.

And he’s not cutting the Academy any slack for leaving his name off the list.

He’s expressed his overall dislike for award shows in the past, such as in his song “FLOOR 13” with the lyrics “y’all award shows suck, go tell ‘em”.

I hope Megan Fox is consoling him rn.

The Weeknd’s boycott.

The most memorable snub in recent years was when The Weeknd did not appear once on the 2021 Nominations, despite his album After Hours holding the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart for three weeks.

After tweeting angrily last year, he’s now been nominated three times for the 2022 ceremonies.

He’s yet to comment on this development. I’ve got a feeling the “Blinding Lights” hitmaker won’t be too impressed.

The Academy better get a skillet for all this beef.
