It's Official: "Game Of Thrones" Will End With Season 8 (That Means There's Just Two Seasons Left)

Valar morghulis: Game of Thrones will wind up after Season 8.

EW extracted the end-date from HBO programming president Casey Bloys at the Television Critics Association’s press tour. He confirmed that showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss’ plan to wrap up the story in just two years’ time.

“Believe me, as the new [programming executive] coming in, if I could get them to do more, I would take 10 more seasons,” he said.

“But we take their lead on what they think they can do the best version of the show.”

Benioff and Weiss previously said there are likely only 13 episodes left (15 at most), indicating that Seasons 7 and 8 will be somewhat shorter than the ten-episode runs of previous years.

If it’s any consolation, Season 7 will be coming a little later, debuting in late 2017 rather than April (as is tradition). For that, you can thank unseasonably warm weather in Europe.

(As a result, GOT will be ineligible for next year's Emmys, so it'll have to make do with its expected sweep at the coming awards.)

This means Game of Thrones won’t be officially over for a while yet. You can bide your time by picking a new character to hate with the fire of a thousand Drogons.
