Childish Gambino Will Drop His Last (?) Album “Later This Year”

We have great news, good news and one unfathomably terrible reminder for you.

First, the great news, per Variety: Childish Gambino—aka the alter ego of Atlanta genius and future Simba, Donald Glover—will release a follow-up album to his 2016 hit “Awaken, My Love” later this year.

So, expect a new “Redbone” sometime in the next few months.

Now, the good news. Glover’s creative agency Wolf + Rothstein has teamed up with the larger RCA Records for the release, indicating he has even bigger aspirations and ideas for the untitled new record. (Considering “Redbone” remained a hit for much of 2017, and the album is up for the top gong at the GRAMMYs, those are some big expectations.)

But now, the unfathomably terrible reminder: This will be Childish Gambino’s last album.

Glover announced as much in concert last year, when he told audiences, “I’ll see you for the last Gambino album.”

But perhaps he simply means he’s retiring the Childish Gambino moniker. After all, ‘Donald Glover’ is probably a big enough name these days; he’s Childish no more.

Anyway, stay woke.
