"Aquaman" Raked In a Humble Billion Worldwide; How's Your 2019 Going?

Aquaman is showing Hollywood that viewers want more unique superhero movies.
We're just 14 days into the new year and while it's too early to call if this is your year, it's probably not going as swimmingly as this DC Universe movie.
Defying most odds (it is DC after all), Aquaman has cracked the one billion dollar mark worldwide, making it the 37th movie to do so since 1997.

It hit Australian cinemas on Boxing Day and as of the first week of January, it has made nearly $USD20 million (close to $AUD28 million) in our country alone.
Worldwide, however, it's managed to make $USD1.02 billion and that number is only going to rise in the coming weeks.

Exclusive footage of Aquaman demolishing his competitors.
It joins the league (just not you, Justice League) of other superhero films, like Black Panther and Wonder Woman, absolutely smashing records for stories following more diverse heroes. It also helps that it's the first Aquaman to hit our screens as opposed to a third sequel or another reboot (looking at you, Spider-Man).
With more sequels like Wonder Woman: 1984, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home on the horizon for 2019, we'll have to wait and see how they fare against debut standalone flicks like Captain Marvel and Shazam!
