"Black Panther" Has Made a Cool Billion Worldwide and Is Getting a Sequel

Black Panther is now one of only a few Marvel Universe films to make the cut.
Black Panther has been having a dream run at the box office right now after everyone (even Michelle Obama) gave it two thumbs up. It's been so wildly popular that a sequel has already been confirmed despite it having only being released for a short time.
But now, as it enters its fourth weekend, it's hit another milestone, reaching the one-billion-dollar mark at the worldwide box office; a feat that only a few standout films ever reach.

It joins a group of around 30 films (and only a few from the Marvel Universe) to crack the enormous figure and there's no sign of it stopping as we head into another weekend.
Already, Black Panther has a number of records under its belt: It was the number one February release of all time and the highest ever Monday at the American box office, grossing $US40 million on 19 February.
Basically, it's extremely successful.
So much so, in fact, it will almost definitely take over The Dark Knight and possibly even The Avengers as the highest-grossing superhero movie in the United States.
Meanwhile, in Australia, it's remained the top-grossing movie for a third week in a row, raking in nearly $AUD30 million so far.
People are pretty stoked about the film's success and are hoping it's a good lesson for Hollywood that films without a white, male lead can be hugely successful.
What #BlackPanther reaching $1 billion WON'T do:

-Destroy racism
-Pay your bills
-Guarantee a sale of your next project
What #BlackPanther reaching $1 billion DOES do:
-Inspire interest in black/African projects
-Lay bare the lie about profitability
-Tells creators: CREATE pic.twitter.com/qNWnL5vbN6
So happy to see that Hollywood is FINALLY seeing past the myth of unprofitability w/o a white male lead. Last time I went to the movie theater, I noticed that the 4 most prominently displayed posters did not feature one white male face. Sign of a change, methinks... pic.twitter.com/AhaR5GHodM

Let's hope this trend for representation continues until it's no longer the exception.
