"Wonder Woman" Just Smashed the Record for Highest-Grossing Film by a Female Director

There has been a lot of positive hype (and an equal amount of criticism) surrounding DC’s latest superhero movie.
Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins, grossed more than $US100 million over the weekend, breaking the box office record for the highest-earning opening weekend for a female director.
The previous 2003 record belonged to Lana and Lilly Wachowski for The Matrix Reloaded, which grossed more than $US91 million.
There were a lot of opinions being thrown around on Twitter.
I want to print the Wonder Woman box office returns on a piece of paper and hand it to every exec in town that doesn't hire women to direct

Spend 12 years trying to get hired to direct Wonder Woman.

Me: this part of Wonder Woman feels weird.

Also me: because you've never seen a woman do this in a film before.
Last week, some men were angered by female-identifying only screenings of Wonder Woman at a cinema in Texas. A male lawyer from New York has since announced his intentions to take legal action against the cinema. He cited that their screenings were "illegal", in reference to anti-discrimination laws that were initially introduced to stop venues from barring women and minority groups.
This is why we can't have nice things.
