The DC Universe Continues to Hit the Big Screen – What’s Next?

Light the Bat Signal and mark your calendars.
The rise of superhero films continues to grow, and it’s far from slowing down.
Early in the year, filmmaker James Gunn announced a bunch of new projects in the works as a part of his new DC Universe, which includes seeing another new Superman in 2025 (yes, we have to say goodbye to Henry Cavill).

Let’s have a look at what’s coming up next for DC in 2023 and beyond.
The Flash.
There’s definitely no shortage of films exploring the multiverse recently, and The Flash is ready to do the same when it releases this week.
When the Flash (Ezra Miller) uses his powers to travel back in time to save his family, he becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned.
The excitement for the film ramped up when it was revealed in recent trailers that Supergirl was making her film debut, as well as Michael Keaton returning to his role as the iconic Batman he played in 1989-1992.
This film is to be the reset of the DC Universe that we’ve come to know over the years, so it’ll be interesting to see how the film concludes and sets up the films to come.
Blue Beetle.
A character we didn’t expect to see hit the big screen – Blue Beetle – is getting his own movie, set to release in August this year.
Jaime Reyes, played by Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai), finds himself in possession of a scarab, which gives him a wicked suit of armour ‘designed to protect its host’.
It’s refreshing to see a lesser-known hero get his own movie, and we’re all for it.
Only time will tell if we see more of Blue Beetle in any future DC films.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Slated for release at the end of the year, we haven’t seen much about the sequel to the 2018 Aquaman.
Seeing as The Flash is supposed to reset the current DC Universe, we’re intrigued to know where Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom fits.
There’s not too much to report on the sequel just yet, but Rotten Tomatoes reported that James Gunn’s he claimed the film will lead into his first DCU project Superman: Legacy.
Joker: Folie à deux.
2019’s Joker is arguably one of DC’s biggest and best recent films of the last few years, so there’s no surprise a sequel is on the way.
Lady Gaga has been cast as Harley Quinn, and we’re looking forward to seeing her take on the iconic role.
The film is also rumoured to be a musical, which is… interesting, but we’re not mad about it. While it might seem like a bit of a direction to go in, we have faith it’s going bring something really interesting to this next story.
You’ll have to wait a bit longer for this one though, as its releasing late 2024.
