It’s Official: “13 Reasons Why” Will Get a Second Season in 2018 and Hannah Might Return for It

Trigger Warning: This article discusses suicide.
Netflix, hungry for more hot takes, has officially announced a second season of 13 Reasons Why, the TV show that’s propping up an entire think-piece industry.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, 13 Reasons Why will, fittingly, return for 13 more episodes.
(Update: If you're not afraid of future spoilers, find out more details about S2 here.)
The second season will debut in 2018. It apparently “picks up in the aftermath of Hannah Baker's (Katherine Langford) death and the start of the characters' complicated journeys toward healing and recovery.”
Hopefully we’ll also finally figure out who’s inking all these underage teens.
It’s not known if the Perth-born Langford will actually be back for the second season as the tape-recording Hannah Baker; announcing it would probably be something of a spoiler, as it might indicate how much of Season Two would involve flashbacks (or, potentially, more tapes).
That said, in a previous interview with THR, returning showrunner Brian Yorkey said Hannah’s story was “not finished” and she’ll be “an integral part of whatever the next chapter of the story is”.
“She's very much still at the center of it,” he added.
Though the show’s viewership figures haven’t been made available (typical Netflix), social media chatter indicates 13 Reasons Why is a bona fide hit.
It became clear the streaming platform would produce a second season when one of its stars, Ross Butler, left his other program about teen death, Riverdale. Later it was revealed that a writers’ room was already hard at work on storylines for the next stage of the story.
Nonetheless, 13 Reasons Why has received its fair share of backlash over its depiction of suicide, with some Aussie schools even sending letters home to parents to warn them of the difficult subject matter. Netflix responded by adding more warnings to its episodes.
