A “13 Reasons Why” Star Says Goodbye, Confirming They Won’t Be Back for S3

Trigger Warning: This article discusses suicide.

One of the stars of Netflix’s controversial, obsessively-watched series 13 Reasons Why has confirmed they won’t be a part of the third season…

Spoilers for 13 Reasons Why coming!

… but considering this character died two seasons ago, it’s already pretty impressive she hung in there as long as she did.

Perth’s own Katherine Langford has said goodbye to her character Hannah Baker on Instagram, revealing that she "let [Hannah] go" after wrapping production of the second season six months earlier.

The events of 13 Reasons Why’s first season are set in motion by Hannah’s suicide. It's discovered she left behind a series of cassette tapes for her schoolmates, implicating them in her death, giving Langford plenty of screentime to depict what happened in Hannah's final days. In the second season, we see more of Hannah's backstory from the other characters' perspectives (including a surprise summer romance with Ross Butler’s Zach). Langford also gets to haunt the imagination of her friend Clay (Dylan Minnette).

However, it now seems Hannah’s story arc has come to an end, and Langford will be moving on to greener, less-parent-angering pastures.

"As most of you know @13reasonswhy was my first ever job and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to tell Hannah's story so fully in season 1, and to be asked back for a season 2," she wrote.

"This show will always be a special part of my life, and regardless of whether Hannah is there or not, I know that I will continue to strive to do work that is meaningful and has a positive impact—whether that be in film, music, or any other form of art."

Langford was last in Love, Simon and will star in a new sci-fi fantasy called Spontaneous, where she'll play a high schooler who "discovers that she may spontaneously burst into flames at any moment".

It's worth noting 13 Reasons Why has not yet been renewed for a third season, but come on Netflix, we've done this dance before. Plus, the school where they film the show has already been booked in for another round.
