A Change on “Riverdale” Kind-of Confirms a Second Season for “13 Reasons Why”

Trigger warning: This article discusses suicide.
Welcome (back) to your tape.
Ever since 13 Reasons Why debuted on Netflix earlier this month, rabid fans have been wondering if the addictive (and maybe problematic) show will get a second season.
This, despite the first season having covered the entire contents of the source novel, not to mention the fact that S1 ended with (spoiler alert for anyone who is not aware of the premise of 13 Reasons Why) the suicide of protagonist Hannah Baker (Australian actress Katherine Langford).
And yet! A report by TVLine says 13 Reasons Why is “a lock to get a Season 2 pickup.”
Their confidence comes from a revelation regarding fellow teen show Riverdale, which shares a star with 13 Reasons Why: Ross Butler. (He plays Reggie on Riverdale and Zach on 13 Reasons Why.)
Riverdale’s series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has told TVLine that Reggie will be recast in its second season, due to Butler’s apparent unavailability.
“We love what Ross did with the role of Reggie [this season], but because of his commitments to other projects, we couldn’t use him nearly as much as we would have liked,” he said.
“[Next season], we want more Reggie on our show—he’s Archie’s rival!—and because Ross is unavailable to come back to Riverdale, we’re looking for a new Reggie.”
Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed 13 Reasons Why’s return, but Twitter was quick to share some story ideas.
Unless Tony puts on a Ghostface mask and kills the rest of the cast, Netflix can keep it
