Riverdale will come back later this year with almost double the episodes (but minus one Ross Butler).

As previously reported, Butler stepped away from his part as Reggie in Riverdale so he could devote more time to Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, where he plays Zach Dempsey.

But if the Riverdale cast was sad to lose him, they didn’t show it at Comic-Con.

The stars of the CW show (it too airs on Netflix in Australia) assembled to drop a teaser trailer for the second season, as well as spill details on its extra-long episode order.

Whereas Season One of the gritty Archie reboot was comprised of 13 episodes, Season Two will go all the way up to 22.

Showrunner Robert Aguirre-Sacasa promised an “even darker” second season, and assured fans (mild spoilers ahead) that they’d know the fate of Archie’s dad, Fred Andrews, by the end of the first episode.

He even pledged to keep looking for ways to bring Sabrina the Teenage Witch (from the original Archie comics) into the Riverdale world, even though that would mean a proper shift into the realm of the supernatural.

“I love horror stuff and I love dreams and jump scares and stuff like that, so we’re always looking for ways to put [the supernatural] into Riverdale,” he said.

Sabrina’s just going to appear in a dream sequence, isn’t she?

Despite the darkness, the panel still deigned to offer a blooper reel for Season One. Bask in K.J Apa’s NZ accent below, followed by a trailer for Season Two.
