Will Smith As Genie From Disney's "Aladdin" Is... Disturbing

Will Smith's Genie has been unveiled in the new Aladdin teaser and it's doing more than turning heads.

Wedged in between Grammy announcements, the latest look at Disney's upcoming live-action remake of Aladdin was released.

Most of the footage had already sorta been released previously, but in the last few seconds of the new trailer, we got the first glimpse at the new Genie, played by Will Smith; an image many couldn't forget.

In the OG animation, released in 1994, Genie (voiced by the late Robin Williams) was a blue ghost-like figure with a pointed ponytail and chin strap. If in 1994, instead of being animated, Genie were to be played by a real-life human, he would probably not be the beloved character he is today.

Flash forward to 2019 and Disney has decided that creating Genie in Will Smith's image, albeit blue, would be a great idea. The internet, collectively, respectfully disagrees.

Instead, many compared human Genie to other ridiculous moments in film history.

It took a lot of searching but there were some fans of Smith's blue-d up Genie.

You'll have time to recover from the shock when Aladdin hits cinemas on 23 May.

  • I think Will Smith is the perfect choice for Genie, his personality fits the character well and he looks awesome! People will always find something to complain about remakes.
