Why Is Zoë Kravitz Suddenly on All Our Favourite Songs? (Oh, It’s Because She’s Great)

We’re literally not complaining.
Over the weekend, Childish Gambino set the internet on fire with a live performance of "This Is America" on Saturday Night Live, which was followed by a music video that took the cinders of the internet and set them aflame once more, finally reducing them to ash. It was pretty cool.
It was also enough to make everyone forget about the other new song Gambino debuted on SNL, aptly titled "Saturday", mostly because it wasn’t a vicious commentary on life in America and didn’t have a quintet of dancing schoolkids.
But it did have Zoë Kravitz.
Yes, Zoë Kravitz aka Bonnie from Big Little Lies aka Toast from Mad Max: Fury Road aka the owner of the greatest, never-gonna-be-topped family tree on Wikipedia. I mean, look at this thing:

Given her genetic make-up, would you be surprised to learn she’s a singer too?
Admittedly, she didn’t do much of it on Saturday night. Kravitz introduced Childish Gambino from the floor of the SNL studio, before walking onstage to casually chill with some buds during the performance. The fact her sit-in inspired an entire article is what we call having presence.

It marked her third musical cameo in just two weeks, following pop-ins on Janelle Monáe’s Dirty Computer and Rae Sremmurd’s SR3MM, and though she didn’t utter a word on "Saturday" (maybe she will on the eventual studio version?), her appearance completed the trifecta and made the trend official: Kravitz is now the go-to good luck charm for cutting edge hip-hop artists.
Firstly, it’s important to note Kravitz founded her own band, LOLAWOLF, in 2013. They were reportedly planning to release a new album in "early 2018", which, I hate to break it to them, was a couple months ago. Nonetheless, here’s their most recent, very dreamy single.
Perhaps in anticipation of LOLAWOLF’s next release—or, to kill time between Big Little Lies seasons—Kravitz has been doing the musical rounds, beginning her streak on Janelle Monáe’s "Screwed", released on 27 April.
It’s not just for a few ad-libs, either. She gets to perform an entire stanza, and then sings the chorus alongside Monáe. (That means delivering the line, "Wanna get screwed like an animal," with chipper enthusiasm, which you’d think Monáe might have wanted to save for herself.)
Then, on 4 May, Kravitz popped up on Rae Sremmurd’s triple-album SR3MM, specifically on Slim Jxmmi’s "Anti-Social Smokers Club", to deliver a blistering rap in a schoolyard-taunt flow that culminates with the undeniable boast, "That's why your boyfriend wanna take me on a dinner date." (She scored a writing credit too.)
So, will we continue to see her pop up on new tunes as the year continues? (Contenders include upcoming releases from Jorja Smith, Nicki Minaj, Teyana Taylor, Ariana Grande and, umm, Kanye West.)
Maybe she’ll slow down on the features as LOLAWOLF revs up. All we know for sure is that Donald Glover spent his SNL monologue joking about being good at everything, when, honestly, Zoë could have taken over and pulled it off just as well.
Thanks to Donald Glover, Alec Baldwin, Ben Stiller, Martin Short, @jimmyfallon, Scarlett Johansson, Stormy Daniels, @ZoeKravitz, Daniel Kaluuya and everyone that watched. Goodnight! #SNL pic.twitter.com/UigbOM3RY0
