“Big Little Lies” S2 to Give Newcomer Meryl Streep Her Big (Little) Break

The second season of Big Little Lies is coming in hot.

Meryl Streep—yes, the Meryl Streep you’re thinking of—has been added to the already-stacked cast of the HBO series, joining actress/producers Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman for its second season.

It’s a big week for Streep, who received the 21st Oscar nomination of her career just a couple days ago for The Post, breaking her own record for most acting nominations, ever.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Streep will play Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Alexander Skarsgard’s character Perry, and mother-in-law to Kidman’s character, Celeste.

(Spoilers incoming for Big Little Lies’ first season…)

Apparently, Mary Louise will be something of a thorn in Celeste’s side, arriving in Monterey seeking answers to Perry’s death.

Skarsgard, despite having been killed off, will reportedly return for the second season in some form (probably in flashbacks, or, fingers crossed, as a twin with a thin moustache or something).

Expect even more newbies to join the cast. Sources say we’ll also get to meet the parental units of Zoe Kravitz’s character, Bonnie.

However, neither Kravitz, Shailene Woodley nor Emmy and Golden Globe winner Laura Dern (aka the other murder-covering-up ladies of Monterey) are officially signed on for the surprise second season of the HBO hit. Why? They’re still negotiating major pay bumps following the massive success of the original miniseries, which scored eight Emmys and four Golden Globes in total.

Get it.
