The Wildest Picks From Triple J's Requestival (So Far)

These beats slap.
Triple j’s Requestival is back after its super popular first run last year due to lockdown, and this time around every song being played from 6am – 9pm this week is being chosen by a triple j listener.
Last year's most requested song was composer John Williams’ “Dual of the Fates” (honestly a bop, ngl).
From beats that are cooked to tunes that are a real vibe, here’s the wildest picks from triple j’s Requestival (so far).
"Can I Borrow A Feeling" by Kirk Van Houten
This one is for all the old school The Simpons fans out there who remember how much of a tune Kirk’s first (and only) single was.
Played live at Homer’s second wedding to Marge, recently divorced Kirk tries to win back his ex Luann with his performance but fails miserably.
At least he still has his dignity, right?
“The Office Theme Song” by The Scrantones
If you don’t blast and sing along to The Office’s opening credits, are you even really a fan?
From the piano to the drums, the song slaps and we’re glad the fine people at triple j included it in the Requestival line-up.
Anyone feel like binging the whole series again now?
“Mambo No. 5” by Bob the Builder
Ngl, if Bob the Builder’s version of Mambo No. 5 doesn’t get you at least tapping your foot, you’re probably dead inside.
RIP.
Also, I’m loving how seriously triple j listeners are taking Requestival.
“Misogyny Speech” by Julia Gillard
On 12 May, triple j played former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s iconic misogyny speech in full.
That’s an entire 15 minutes of Gillard dropping truth bombs on Tony Abbott.
What’s even cooler is that it has attracted the most reacts on triple j’s Twitter out of any song played in Requestival so far.
Do yourself a favour and watch the speech.
“Africa” by Toto
Okay, “Africa” by Toto might not be the wildest song to appear in Requestival, but can you blame me for including it?
It's a certified banger.
All we need now is Daryl Braithwaite’s “The Horses” and I can sleep easy. Don’t do me dirty triple j.
“Rest in Peace” by Jim Johnston
Easily one of the weirder songs that has made it into Requestival is "Rest in Peace" by Jim Johnston (aka The Undertaker's entrance music in WWE).
I never thought I needed to hear the iconic bells and horror-organ death march on triple j but now that I have, life really is complete.

"So Good" by Bratz Rock Angels
If you had a Bratz doll growing up then you'll surely remember the Bratz Rock Angels' song 'So Good".
This is what real music sounds like fam.
"Mii Channel Theme" by Nintendo Wii
Finally, all you Wii players from the 2000s stand up and be counted 'cos some legend requested the Nintendo Wii "Mii Channel Theme". That's a true Aussie right there.
This had me bopping on my morning commute.
Seriously people, Requestival is one of the coolest things that triple j have ever come up with.
If you wanna make a request and hear your song, triple j is still taking requests on the app.
