So, It Turns Out "The Office" Could Have Had a Different Theme Song

Glad it didn't 'cos the OG theme slaps.
The opening theme song to the US version of The Office will go down in history as one of the most iconic TV tunes of all time, alongside “I’ll Be There for You” from Friends and the epic Game of Thrones opener.
So, it might shock you to know that the show was close to having a very different—and well known—theme song.
In the latest episode of the Office Ladies podcast, cast members Jenna Fischer (Pam Halpert) and Angela Kinsey (Angela Martin) revealed that there were three songs on the table for the series, none of which were the eventual final choice.
“Greg Daniels [creator] whittled it down to three choices and he created title sequences to all three songs and he gave DVDs out to the whole cast,” Fischer said in the episode.
“And we got to vote on the songs.”
The three songs that were being tossed up were “Better Things” by The Kinks, “Mr. Blue Sky” by ELO, and “Float On” by Modest Mouse. Fischer revealed she voted for the ELO opening credits, while Kinsey was a fan of Modest Mouse. Once the votes were tallied, “Mr. Blue Sky” came out as the winner and that was set to be the opener for the show.

As it turns out, another show called LAX snuck in before The Office and used “Mr. Blue Sky” for its 13 episodes before it got cancelled. Regardless, it left show creator Daniels frantically searching for a new song weeks before the show was to debut on NBC.
His solution was to create an original song for the show, and he hired composer Jay Ferguson to write and record the famous bop alongside The Scrantones a week before its premiere.
And they say you can’t do a project the night before.
