Watch Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson And Waleed Aly Pay Tribute To Prince (Not Together, Sadly)

The BET Awards are going down in Los Angeles right now, celebrating the year in black entertainment.

Celebrations aside, the ceremony had to pay tribute to the late great Purple One, Prince, who tragically passed away earlier this year.

Madonna had a (highly criticised) crack at Prince's hits at last month's Billboard Music Awards, but BET has snapped back with a rollicking medley featuring Stevie Wonder with Tori Kelly (performing “Take Me With U”) and Jennifer Hudson alongside The Roots’ guitarist “Captain” Kirk Douglas (demolishing “Purple Rain”).

Spike Lee, DJ Khaled and Taraji P. Henson sang along from the audience.

(The BET Awards also opened with a surprise performance of “Freedom” by Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar, in case your FOMO was not quite potent enough.)

It wasn’t the only Prince performance that went down over the weekend.

Gold Logie winner and noted wailer Waleed Aly also showed off his mad guitar skills on Sunday, similarly shredding the solo to Prince’s “Purple Rain”.

The performance was conducted after Melbourne’s Reclink Community Cup (where musicians and community broadcasters play footy to raise money for disadvantaged Australians).

We probably would have preferred if Wonder, Hudson and Aly could have somehow joined forces, but we’ll take what we can get.
