R.I.P. Prince: The Purple One Passes Away, Aged 57

Prince, one of the most beloved and inimitable recording artists of all time, has died aged 57.

His passing was confirmed by publicist Yvette Noel-Schure, CNN reports.

“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning,” she said.

The cause of death is unknown.

On Thursday, police said they were investigating a death at Paisley Park studios in Minnesota. They had responded to a medical call, where they found the artist unresponsive in an elevator.

Prince recently completed a surprise, one-man tour of Australia, and had continued to be hugely prolific in his final years.

His most recent album, HitNRun Phase Two, was released in December of 2015.

Over the course of his career, he dropped 39 studio albums and more than 100 singles, including "Purple Rain", "Raspberry Beret", "I Wanna Be Your Lover", "Little Red Corvette", "When Doves Cry", "Diamonds and Pearls" and too many more to mention.

More news as it develops.
