"Star Wars" Twitter Calls John Boyega "Our Hero" After Powerful Black Lives Matter Speech

He's joined protesters in London.

Protests continue to take place in the United States over the death of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer, and they have sparked rallies all over the world.

Star Wars actor John Boyega joined a protest in London's Hyde Park, making an empowered speech to demonstrators.

"Black lives have always mattered," Boyega said.

"We have always been important. We have always meant something. We have always succeeded regardless. And now is the time. I ain't waiting. I ain't waiting."

He added, "We are a physical representation of our support for George Floyd. We are a physical representation of our support for Sandra Bland. We are a physical representation of our support for Trayvon Martin. We are a physical representation of our support for Stephen Lawrence."

Boyega was obviously emotional, saying "I don't know if I'm going to have a career after this."

Thousands of people have taken to social media to express their support for Boyega.

Additionally, the official Star Wars Twitter account called Boyega "our hero" in an empowering post about the actor.

Boyega isn't the only celebrity speaking out against police brutality. Earlier this week, the Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast and showrunner donated $US100,000 to the National Bail Fund Network.

Despite saying he wasn't sure whether he would be offered acting jobs after speaking out, a number of actors and Hollywood directors expressed how excited they'd be to work with Boyega.

"I would work with John Boyega and I urge other non-black creators to affirm they have his back as well," writer and director Matthew Cherry wrote in a tweet.
