A “Space Jam” Game Is Coming to Xbox with Some Sweet Custom Controllers

With the Space Jam: A New Legacy movie starring LeBron James hitting cinemas on 15 July, Xbox have announced an exclusive beat ‘em up arcade game that will drop two weeks before the film, to get you pumped.

Space Jam: A New Legacy The Game is launching exclusively on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for free on 1 July, before being made widely available on 15 July in line with the movie premiere.

The game has some good old fashion beat ‘em up style gameplay with 8-bit graphics, something that was wanted by gamers when Xbox asked what fans wanted to see in a Space Jam game. So in a way it’s fan-made… kinda.

Players get to take control of either LeBron James—star of the new movie—Bugs Bunny or Lola Bunny (played by Zendaya in the film) and fight against the Goon Squad to save the planet.

Speaking about the game, developer Digital Eclipse said they were excited to tap into the nostalgia of the Looney Tunes universe and old school arcade gaming.

“That era of gaming is a constant reminder of some of the happiest times in our lives,” they said in a press release.

“We wanted to bring a taste of that to modern gamers, especially those who never got to experience the days of arcades.” Too right my man. 

What’s even cooler is Xbox have confirmed there are three exclusive Space Jam controllers coming out alongside the game. One based on the Tune Squad, one on the Goon Squad, and the last one focused on the Warner 3000 entertainment “Serververse” (it’s part of the new film).

For Aussies, only the Tune Squad controller will be available down under but that’s all good ‘cos it’s by far the best one. The controller will be available from 8 July for $100 at EB Games.
