Seven Devastating Tweets About Regé-Jean Page Leaving "Bridgerton"

He won't be returning for Season 2.

If you've been on social media at all over the past few days, it's highly likely you would have come across the absolutely catastrophic news that hottie Regé-Jean Page will not be returning to Bridgerton.

With the popular Netflix show renewed for a second season back in January, fans totally expected to see Page appear as Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings again.

However, over the weekend Netflix announced that the beloved character would be saying farewell to the series.

"Dear Readers, while all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton's quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings," a social media post via Lady Whistledown read.

"We'll miss Simon's presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family," it continued.

"Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer—more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear."

Oh, we can bear it all right.

What some viewers cannot handle, however, is the news of Page's departure.

Naturally, fans have taken to Twitter to express their devastation. So, here are seven of the most high-key emotional tweets ('cos we're all crying together).

1. Not this Duke.

Two worlds collided.

2. Say what?

Yep, this pretty much sums up our reaction.

3. Oprah's had enough.

We will simply not accept this.

4. Let the tears flow.

It's totally okay to cry rn.

5. Need some space? Understandable.

Take all the time you need to mentally process this travesty.

6. Bridgerton vs. The Vampire Diaries.

This is when we truly come to terms with the gravity of this situation.

7. We're speechless.

Honestly, we're just lost for words.

Of course, what viewers really want to know is why Page won't be returning for Bridgerton S2. In an interview with Variety, the actor explained that he only ever planned on doing one season.

"It's a one-season arc. It's going to have a beginning, middle, end—give us a year," he said.

"[I thought] 'That's interesting,' because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on."

As reported by Screen Rant, Season 2 will focus on Daphne's eldest brother Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey).

No release date for the upcoming season has been confirmed yet, but we'll keep you posted dear readers (that's if you even plan on watching it anymore).
