“Never Have I Ever” Has Been Officially Renewed for a Second Season

What a relief.

If you fell in love with the first season of Netflix's Never Have I Ever, we certainly cannot blame you.

The heart-warming and hilarious coming-of-age comedy series launched to critical acclaim back in April and holds a 96 per cent score on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer.

So, if you're absolutely obsessed with the show, you'll be happy to know that Netflix has officially renewed the series for a second season.

Try to contain your excitement.

If, for whatever reason, you haven't seen Season 1, the show follows the complicated life of Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), a first-generation Indian American teenager. Devi is an overachieving high school sophomore who often finds herself in difficult situations. She's also dealing with the sudden death of her father.

Ramakrishnan beat out 15,000 other actors via an open casting call to win the lead role, so it's worth watching just for her performance alone.

The series was co-created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher. Fisher also serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner.

Ramakrishnan told Deadline that she believes the show's inclusivity is part of the reason it has been so successful.

"I think it's great that we have a story like Never Have I Ever but it's depressing that this is happening in 2020 and even though we can applaud breaking stereotypes, we can't forget that we still have so much work to do," the actress said.

"Devi is only one story. Hopefully as much as this show inspires other minorities around the world, it will also inspire directors, producers, creators, writers to start bringing that natural inclusion into their shows."

With production halted on many series due to the coronavirus pandemic, it's not clear when production for Season 2 will start.

We'll keep our fingers crossed it'll happen sooner rather than later.
