"Bridgerton" Is Officially Netflix's Biggest Series Ever

Wait until Lady Whistledown hears about this.

Dear readers, it turns out that Netflix's latest Regency-era British drama Bridgerton is now the streaming platform's most popular show ever.

Well, isn't that some spicy news? Please try to contain your shock.

According to Netflix, more than 82 million households watched at least one partial episode in the show's first 28 days. The series premiered on 25 December 2020, so it's likely you binge-watched it over the holiday period.

It beats out The Witcher, which was watched by 76 million households when its first season landed on Netflix in December 2019. Although, Netflix didn't have as many subscribers when The Witcher first arrived.

Anyway, this means that 82 million Netflix accounts chose to watch at least two minutes of Bridgerton in that time period. (So, even if you and your mum watched it separately, Netflix only counts that as one household view.)

If you still haven't made time to see what all the fuss is about, Bridgerton follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family, as she makes her debut onto Regency London's competitive marriage market. Hoping to follow in her parents' footsteps and find a match sparked by true love, Daphne's prospects initially seem to be unrivaled.

Of course, things quickly become a tad complicated when she meets the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page).

While many viewers found Bridgerton highly entertaining, others slammed the show for one of its controversial sex scenes.

Netflix has already renewed the saucy series for a second season, which will reportedly focus on Daphne's eldest brother Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey).

Bridgerton isn't the only Netflix show that has been particularly popular during the coronavirus pandemic. As reported by The Verge, The Queen's Gambit and Lupin were watched by more than 62 million and 70 million households, respectively.

At this stage, there's no confirmed release date for Season 2. So, you'll just have to settle for the memes instead (we're not sad about it, tbh).
