Scaredy-Cat? Here Are Some Horror Movies That Won't Completely Traumatise You This Halloween

Halloween can be enjoyed by everyone. Even the ones who find Jurassic World too scary.
It's creeping closer to 31 October; when most of the year's scariest flicks are released to theatres. So, naturally, your friends decide to make a night of it. But you've never quite gotten over your fear of the dark and your fear management plan consists of avoiding all movies and television shows that have the faintest spooky storyline
How are you going to break it to your friends that you become a nervous wreck at the first sight of horror?

Well, for starters, it's okay to admit we're all operating on different levels and that some would prefer to have a nice night's sleep without the fear of being eaten by a deformed ghost or invisible alien.
And secondly, Halloween doesn't have to be about scaring yourself so much that bathroom breaks and sleeping alone becomes virtually impossible.
For these reasons, we've decided to compile a list of movies for viewers who are still in 'kreepy kindergarten' and who can comfortably watch Zombieland but aren't ready to graduate to A Quiet Place.
"I just want the laughs."
What We Do In the Shadows (2014)

What's it about? Ever wondered what it would be like living as a vampire in the suburbs of Wellington, New Zealand? Well, you'll find out in this horror comedy directed by your fave, Taika Waititi. And don't worry, it's 100 per cent giggles.
Where to watch? This one's streaming on Netflix and Kanopy.
Little Evil (2017)

What's it about? Gary (Adam Scott) falls in love and marries a woman but soon realises that his new stepson is potentially the devil reincarnated. If what you really want to watch this Halloween is Ben Wyatt/Adam Scott going toe-to-toe with a six-year-old boy then this is a must-watch.
Where to watch? You can catch Little Evil on Netflix.
"I want a maximum of three jump scares."
Happy Death Day (2017)

What's it about? Imagine it's your birthday and you get horribly murdered by a random psychopath. Now, imagine having to re-live the same day over and over again. Tree, the murderee, decides to figure out who her killer is to stop them before it happens all over again. Get ready for a moderate amount of horror (okay, maybe a few more than three jump scares) with some light moments in-between.
Where to watch? It's streaming on Foxtel now.
Creep (2014)

What's it about? A dying guy hires a videographer from Craigslist to make a video for his unborn child. Sounds chill enough? Wrong. Of course, the dying guy has something more suspicious in mind. Prepare to never trust another soul again on Gumtree.
Where to watch? It's streaming on Netflix now.
"I don't quite want a horrorshow, but I'm ready to be tested."
The Cabin in the Woods (2012)

What's it about? Some friends head out to a remote cabin in the woods and people die. It sounds like every other horror movie but this one's actually ~super meta~. If you can handle what feels like a regular horror movie at times, you'll find this self-aware classic a treat.
Where to watch? Stan is streaming it now.
Drag Me to Hell (2009)

What's it about? A bank employee denies an old lady and her life falls to pieces after the lady curses her. In order to rid of the freaky (and downright inconvenient) curse, she'll have to transfer it someone else.
Where to watch? You can watch it on both Foxtel and Stan this Halloween.
