President Trump Is Working on Something Called the 'FART Act'

Don’t worry, it hasn’t passed yet.

In news that is simultaneously hilarious and also totally unsurprising, U.S. President Donald Trump is apparently working on something called the FART Act.

So, first, the hilarious:

'FART' is both the acronym being used for an act being developed by President Trump, and also the name of the gaseous expulsions humans emit from their rear-ends. It makes a pretty funny sound and smells terrible. You’re probably familiar with it. Twitter certainly is:

According to Axios, President Trump’s 'United States Fair and Reciprocal Tariff Act' is a draft bill that would indicate America’s abandonment of the World Trade Organisation’s rules.

Basically, it would allow America to ignore the basic principles of the WTO, raising U.S. tariffs without the consent of their Congress, and potentially sparking a trade war that would be felt across the globe.

Still, it’s worth noting that the bill is still a draft, with Axios’ source calling it "insane" and unlikely to ever be passed into law. (Not that President Trump won’t keep trying to find ways to renegotiate tariffs.)

Given the sheer volume of utterly bizarre news pouring out of Donald Trump’s administration, social media can’t decide if 'FART' is intentional—to rile up internet commentators and distract from substance, a’la First Lady Melania’s "I Really Don’t Care" coat—or unintentional—yet another oversight from a White House that has allowed countless typos in their official statements and portraits.

It’s Tuesday.
