Olivia Rodrigo Visited The White House and Became a Meme

“Shot girl summer.”

Olivia Rodrigo has been popping off lately. With her angsty album, banger singles and star role in the Disney+ High School Musical TV series, she’s become a teenage icon.

So, when the US government noticed the power and influence she has on young people, they just had to ask her around.

The young pop star was invited to an event at the Oval Office on Thursday to encourage young people everywhere to get vaccinated for COVID-19, in a short down-to-earth speech.

“I am beyond humbled and honoured to be here today to help spread the message about the importance of youth vaccination,” Olivia said.

“I am in awe of the work President Biden and Dr. Fauci have done and was happy to lend my support to this initiative.

“It’s important to have conversations with friends and family members to get vaccinated.”

This is probably one of the last things I would’ve expected to see from Olivia and The White House, but it’s such a great initiative and clever idea, I just have to get behind it.

Honestly, all I can think is that the Aussie government should be taking notes from the US about how to get young people on board for a vaccine, ‘cos Olivia Rodrigo is waaay more convincing than that scary ad they put out earlier this week.

Despite the wholesomeness of Olivia’s speech—and the cute pics of her with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris—the singer-songwriter very quickly blew up on Twitter as a meme, and oh boy did the internet milk the heck out of “Drivers License” references.

Of course, there was also a reference or two about Joshua Bassett, who is rumoured to be the boyfriend that Olivia’s hit single is about.

Aaaand there were jokes made about Olivia becoming the next US president and changing the US national anthem to a bop, which we stan tbh.

Obviously the whole point of Olivia’s speech was to spread an important message to a young audience, and from the looks of things, it kinda worked (not bad).

There were also references to the fact that she basically brought back Y2K fashion and music, and looks like she could star in Hollywood’s next cheesy rom-com.

Idk about you, but I’m ready as heck for a shot girl summer, so fingers crossed younger Aussies will become eligible for more vaccines soon and get their COVID jab.
